Shoutout to the guy at REI who talked me out of a $400 tent
I was dead set on buying this big North Face tent for a solo trip to the Smokies. He asked where I was camping and just said 'you know that thing weighs like 12 pounds right?' Then he walked me over to a simple 3-pound tarp setup that cost me $60. I ended up using that tarp for three years before it wore out. Has anyone else had a salesperson save them from a bad buy like that?

Right? Did that guy also save you from yourself or just from carrying a tent that weighs more than your actual gear? I once walked into a bike shop dead set on some carbon fiber race bike and walked out with a used commuter that still had a bell on it.

Same here. Used to think I needed top shelf gear. That bell changed my mind.
