Spent $280 on a fancy camp stove that nearly ruined dinner for 6 people

I bought a high-end propane stove thinking it would make cooking easier, but the regulator failed on my third trip and the flame kept cutting out. Meanwhile my buddy's $45 Coleman from 2010 worked perfectly the whole weekend. Has anyone else had luck with cheap stoves over expensive ones?

Flip the whole thing around and think about weight and portability instead of just price. That $45 Coleman survived this long because it's built like a tank out of metal parts you could fix with a rock if you had to. Those new expensive stoves are packed with sensitive regulators and lightweight materials that break easier and are impossible to repair in the field. I've seen guys spend big money on backpacking gear only to have it fail because they're trying to save four ounces. Meanwhile the cheap stuff is heavier but it's tougher and you can actually fix it yourself when something goes wrong. It's not just about what works in your backyard, it's about what's still working after years of getting banged around in the trunk.

Oh come on, a ruined dinner from a stove flame seems a bit dramatic, don't you think?
