Switched from a heavy Coleman tent to a lightweight backpacking one last summer and it changed everything
I used to haul my old 8-pound tent for years because I thought it was fine for car camping trips near Denver. Then I borrowed a friend's 3-pound ultralight tent on a rainy hike and realized I was done carrying all that extra weight. Has anyone else made this switch and felt like they were missing out for way too long?

Did the lighter tent actually hold up ok in any strong winds or storms on the trail?

Used to be one of those guys who thought ultralight gear was just asking for trouble in bad weather. But I took the lighter tent out on a few trips in the sierras with gusts probably hitting 40mph and it honestly surprised me. @spencer_moore39 the key is really in how you pitch it and pick your spot. Mine held up fine, no tears or bending poles, just had to guy it out properly. Definitely changed my mind on the whole weight vs durability tradeoff.
