Tent pole snapped on second trip - junk or fixable?
Bought a budget tent from a big box store back in March. Used it once in April, no issues. Second trip last weekend at a state park near me, one of the aluminum poles just cracked in half during setup on a flat site. No wind, no stress, just snapped. Tried using duct tape and a splint from a stick to get through the weekend but it sagged bad. Has anyone had luck repairing poles like that or is it just time to trash it and buy something better?

Worth checking if the pole sections are actually repaivable before tossing the whole tent. I've had luck ordering single replacement sections from places like Tent Pole Technologies, they sell just the aluminum tubes that you cut to size. Your mileage may vary but those generic poles are pretty standard sizes. Duct tape and sticks will get you through a night but that's not a real fix. Take the broken pole into an REI or local gear shop, they can often measure the diameter and get you a matching section. Once that's fixed, the tent might still have years of life left even if it was cheap.
