The week I camped through a storm and my tent finally gave up

Last spring I was up in the Smoky Mountains for a five day trip. Day three hit with a storm that dumped rain sideways for nearly 12 hours straight. My old dome tent started leaking through the seams around midnight, and by 4 AM I had a puddle forming right where my sleeping bag was. I tried patching it with duct tape but the tape just peeled off in the wet. That was the moment I realized I needed to replace a tent I had been using since 2016. Has anyone else had a tent fail in the middle of a bad storm and had to switch brands because of it?

My buddy Mike had a tent collapse on him in Colorado back in 2018.

Went to Colorado a few years back and saw the aftermath of a bad storm up in the mountains. Used to think a good tent was all you needed, but watching those poles snap and fabric rip changed my mind quick. @shanel13, your buddy Mike's story is why I always check the weather and grab something with a proper frame now, not just any cheap pop-up. Stuff can turn dangerous in a hurry at high elevation.
