A student in my debate club said my arguments were too focused on legal theory and ignored student feelings
I started including personal stories from campus protests in my speeches, and it changed the whole room's energy. Has anyone else had to bridge that gap between principle and personal impact?

See this all the time when people explain why a policy actually sucks. The rulebook says one thing, but the real life mess hits different. You made it matter by showing the human cost.

Policies are like IKEA instructions, they never match the real life mess you're trying to build.

Yeah I used to roll my eyes at people who complained about policies, figured they just didn't want to follow rules. But @the_tessa you really hit me with this one. Seeing the actual people behind the numbers makes it impossible to just say 'well the policy says so'. The human cost stuff is what sticks with you, not the fine print. Now I'm the one pointing out when a rulebook solution falls apart in the real world. It's like watching someone try to fix a leaky pipe with duct tape and a prayer. Numbers on a page don't bleed or cry, but people do.
