Can we talk about handing out pocket constitutions at orientation...
I gave out 200 copies last week and got called 'divisive' by a campus activities coordinator. Anyone else get pushback for just sharing the text of the First Amendment?

Seriously, I had the same thing happen at a library table last year. Someone in charge told me it was "stirring up trouble" to just have copies of the Bill of Rights out for anyone to take. It's wild how the paper itself is seen as a threat now. They don't want a neutral starting point, they want to control the whole talk before it even starts. It proves the point that we need to hand out more of them, not less.

Honestly the weirdest part is they always call it divisive but never say which side it's dividing people into. Like are they worried the pro-free speech kids will fight the anti-free speech kids? That's the whole point, the text itself is neutral ground. Calling basic rights divisive shows they think some viewpoints shouldn't even be heard, which is way more divisive than a pamphlet.

Ugh yeah that's such a good point, @andrewt41. I read something the other day about how people who say things are "divisive" are basically saying they don't trust regular folks to handle a simple piece of paper. It's just wild to me.
