Compared open discussions vs moderated panels in my poli sci class

My professor let a guest speaker get shouted down for 20 minutes during an open discussion session last month, but last week with a strict moderator the same topic got real ground. The moderator kept people on point and made sure everyone got a turn, which was night and day better. Has anyone else noticed structured formats working better than open mics for tough topics on campus?

Read an article yesterday saying most forums would be dead within a year without active mods, just endless spam and bots shouting at each other. Seems pretty accurate honestly.
