I finally realized I was shutting down debates instead of encouraging them
I used to cut people off in my campus philosophy club if they brought up sources I thought were sketchy. Last week a freshman asked why I always dismissed her arguments before she finished, and I honestly didn't have a good answer. Has anyone else had that moment where you saw your own gatekeeping behavior for what it was?

Turned out the only debate I was actually scared of was the one where I might be wrong. Silencing someone else felt safer than having to rethink anything.
