Looked up the actual policy on guest speakers at my school
I was curious about bringing a speaker to campus, so I checked the official student handbook online. The approval process requires a 45 day notice and a $500 security deposit, which seems like a lot. It also says the school can deny any speaker if they think it might cause 'disruption', which feels pretty vague. Has anyone else had to deal with this kind of thing?

My last place wanted a deposit equal to THREE months of rent. The landlord said it was for "potential wear and tear" on a brand new apartment. I had to save up for an extra six months just to move in. It feels like they're not even trying to hide that it's just free money for them to hold. The whole system is set up to keep you from ever getting that cash back.
