Professor Davis changed my mind about trigger warnings...

She's a 65 year old sociology prof who's been teaching here for 30 years. I went into her office hours last month ready to argue that trigger warnings just coddle students. She didn't argue back. She asked me to name a single time a trigger warning stopped me from hearing an idea I disagreed with. I couldn't. Then she showed me a folder of emails from students over the years who said a quick heads up let them stay in the room instead of having a panic attack and leaving. That hit different. Has anyone else had a professor change their stance on something they felt strongly about?

That bit about the folder of emails really got to me too. Makes you wonder how many good arguments fall apart when you look at actual human stories instead of theory.

But doesn't a single sad email let you ignore the system that created it, @wren_carr?
