Question about a speaker invite at UT Austin getting shut down

I visited UT Austin last month and saw fliers for a controversial speaker event that got canceled 2 days before. The student group said the admin cited security costs as the reason, but they even offered to pay the extra $5,000. Why do schools get to hide behind vague safety concerns to block who students want to hear?

Read a similar story about a school in California that pulled the same move. They blamed it on security costs but the numbers didn't add up when reporters asked about it. It's almost like schools know they'll get bad press either way so they just pick the easiest reason. The whole thing feels like a loophole to avoid letting students hear things the admin doesn't like.

My buddy's kid goes to a district that required parent permission just to check out a library book about the moon landing.
