Rant: I thought campus speech zones were fine until I saw the tiny box at Ohio State last week
Two years ago I figured free speech zones were no big deal, just a way to keep things organized on a busy campus. Then last week at Ohio State I watched a student get told she had to move her sign about a tuition hike into a 20 by 20 foot pen near the union. She was standing on a quiet walkway with maybe five people around, not blocking anything. The difference between what I pictured and that little tape square was huge, and it made me wonder how many other schools pull the same thing. Has anyone else seen a speech zone that small, or is that pretty normal now?
