That professor told me to avoid talking about politics in class, turns out she was totally right

I ignored her last semester and made a joke about the local mayor during a group project, now three people won't even look at me in the hallway. Has anyone else had a professor give advice that actually saved them from drama?

Must feel real awkward when your "funny joke" turns into the hallway walk of shame... been there in a way. Told a story about a city councilman's bad haircut during a debate once and somebody's cousin knew him personally. Professor never warned me though, just sat there with that "told you so" face while I sweated it out for the rest of the semester.

Oh man, @elliotr39 you just described my exact nightmare with more detail than I needed haha. I made the mistake of joking about the mayor's hair plugs in front of this guy whose dad was the mayor's barber or something, and now I get the cold shoulder from half the student govt club. That professor was right, I should have just stuck to talking about the weather and my dog like a normal person.
