Unpopular opinion: Should a professor be fired for mocking a student's religion in class?
I had to pick a side last semester after a philosophy professor at my community college called a student's Catholic beliefs 'childish fairy tales' during a lecture on logic. Some classmates said it was just free speech and part of academic debate, while others argued it crossed into harassment and made the class hostile. I ended up signing a complaint with the department because it felt less like a debate and more like bullying in front of 40 people. What would you do if you saw a professor openly trash a student's faith like that?

40% is way too high. Schools need to step in more often.

I read a report from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education that said about 40% of students have seen a professor make disrespectful comments about religion. Thats a lot of people dealing with this. Your situation sounds like the professor crossed a line from teaching to personally attacking a student's beliefs. A classroom should be a place for learning, not for someone with authority to tear down a student like that.
