Can we talk about the time my high school principal cut the mic during my graduation speech for mentioning the library budget cuts?
I had written a whole part thanking the librarians for staying late with me, but when I got to the line about how it was a shame their jobs were being cut, the audio just went dead for a solid thirty seconds before coming back on for me to say 'thank you'.

Sounds like your principal really wanted to make sure the truth was silenced, not just the microphone. What a perfect way to show everyone exactly what you were talking about. Cutting the sound just proves they knew it was wrong and didn't want it heard. That thirty seconds of dead air probably said more than your whole speech. Honestly, getting your mic cut at graduation is a bigger honor than most of the awards they gave out that day.

Disagree, they just kept things on schedule.

Jackson says the dead air proved they knew it was wrong. That's a big leap. The principal's job is to run a smooth ceremony for hundreds of families. A grad speech isn't a town hall meeting. Letting a political point slide could have opened the floor for other complaints, turning a nice event into a debate. The cut was probably less about the truth and more about keeping things moving so everyone could get their diploma and go celebrate.
