Got muted for pointing out a cat filter in a serious meeting

During a budget review, my coworker had a kitten filter on. I laughed and said something, but the host quickly muted me.

Getting muted probably wasn't about the filter itself. In a formal setting like a budget review, any off-topic comment can derail the focus. The host likely muted you to keep the meeting on track, not as a personal thing. They have to manage the room, so side chatter about filters, even if funny, gets shut down fast. It's more about professionalism than the joke.

In our quarterly reviews, I learned to mute myself before making any side comments. It saves the host from having to do it and keeps the meeting smooth. Works every time.

Professionalism than the joke" feels like overkill for a filter comment. It's a budget review, not a court hearing.
