Got muzzled at a family dinner for correcting my brother-in-law about real estate
Last month at my sister's place in Austin, he started bragging that homes always double every 5 years. I pulled up actual county data showing values in our zip barely moved since 2019. My mom literally told me to drop it because 'he works hard and doesn't need that'. Has anyone else been shut down for stating facts that kill a relative's vibe?

Man that hits close to home! My uncle does the same thing about cars, swears every truck he buys goes up in value and you can never lose money on them. I showed him a Blue Book page on his own truck one Thanksgiving and he just waved his hand and said "that's not real world pricing." My aunt gave me this look like I just kicked a puppy and changed the subject to her potato salad. The wild part is he actually believes it, so correcting him does nothing except make everyone at the table annoyed at me instead. Now I just nod along and eat my pie, it's way less drama.
