I finally told my dad the truth about his 'classic' car
Last month at my cousin's wedding in Dayton, my dad spent 20 minutes bragging about his 1987 Camaro that's been sitting under a tarp for 12 years. He asked if I wanted to take it over, and I just blurted out that it's a rusted money pit and I'd rather walk everywhere. The silence at the table was brutal, and my aunt tried to change the subject to the buffet. He didn't talk to me for three days, but now we're actually looking at selling it for parts. Has anyone else had to kill a family member's pet project just to keep the peace?

Whoa, hold on, I gotta push back on this one. That car is your dad’s pride and joy, even if it's a heap of rust. You basically called his baby ugly in front of the whole family, and that’s a brutal way to find out the truth. Yeah, it's a money pit, but sometimes the point isn't the car, it's the dream he’s been holding onto for 12 years. You could've talked about selling it later, in private, without making him feel like a fool at his own niece's wedding. Now you're both stuck with a parts sale that probably won't even cover the cost of a tow truck, so I'm not sure who really won here.
