My aunt told me not to bring up my cousin's new job at dinner...
She said it would upset my uncle because he just got laid off, so I stayed quiet the whole night. Turns out my cousin got fired too, and my aunt was trying to hide it from everyone. Have you ever been told to keep a secret that made a situation way worse?

My mom did that with my brother's divorce for six months.

Honestly, sometimes people hide stuff to protect their family. My aunt kept my cousin's job loss quiet for months. She said she didn't want everyone asking him about it while he was looking. It gave him space.
