My aunt's church group chat got locked after someone posted a link about solar panels

She showed me the screen where the admin said 'no politics' and removed the post. It was just a news article about tax credits for home solar, nothing about candidates. I realized some places treat any talk about energy as a fight waiting to happen. Has your family had a group chat shut down over something simple?

Honestly that admin sounds a bit trigger-happy. It's just tax credits, not a debate on climate science (which, okay, can get heated). But locking a whole chat over a news link seems like an overreaction. Maybe they've had bad fights before and just shut anything down preemptively.

Ever get the feeling some mods are just waiting for any excuse to hit the lock button? I once got a thread shut down for posting a cat meme because it "could start a pet preference war." Like, my dude, my tax opinions are way more likely to start a fire than a picture of a sleepy kitten.
