My boss shut down my idea of posting prices on our menu board, and 4 months later I still think he was wrong
I work at a sandwich shop in Boise and last spring I pushed hard to print prices right on the board instead of making people ask at the counter. My boss pulled me aside and said customers who see the numbers just walk out, and he did not want that talk happening in front of the register. So I dropped it, but I started counting quietly for two weeks, and 11 people asked the price and then left anyway. What bugs me is I never got to say the real point, which was that hiding the number makes the whole place feel sneaky. Has anyone worked somewhere that tried showing prices and actually lost sales?
