My old boss told me to stop using text slang in emails and I fought it for weeks
Way back in 2014 I worked at a small marketing firm in Austin. My boss pulled me aside after I sent a client email with "u" instead of "you" and "btw" in there too. She said it made me look careless even if the client was chill. I was annoyed at first cause I thought it was more friendly. But then I lost a potential contract with a bank because the manager saw my casual tone as unprofessional. After that I changed my whole email style to full sentences and proper grammar. Has anyone else had to unlearn how they type online to fit a workplace?

u" and "btw" in a client email? Girl, that's a one way ticket to getting demoted to the spam folder. I'm surprised she didn't handcuff you to the desk after that bank thing.

Haha seriously, that bank thing was a wake-up call I bet. I had a similar moment when a potential client straight up told me my emails sounded like I was texting my buddy instead of a business partner. After that I started proofreading everything twice and never looked back.
