My sister said my toast at her wedding was 'too honest' and the venue staff looked away
So my younger sister got married in Sacramento 3 weeks ago. I was maid of honor. During my toast I said she once dated a guy who stole her debit card and maxed it out at a vape shop, and that I was glad she finally picked someone who pays for his own stuff. Got a few laughs. A few gasps. My mom squeezed my arm hard enough to leave a mark.
After, my sister pulled me aside and said I made her husband's family uncomfortable. His mom apparently went quiet for the rest of the night. I said sorry but I still think people should know what she went through to get here, you know? She said some things are family business.
Now my aunt won't return my texts and my mom says I owe his mom an apology. I don't think I do. Has anyone else said something true at a wedding and gotten treated like the bad guy?
