Told my running buddy the truth about her pace and got the silent treatment for a week
My friend and I trained for a 10K in Austin for 4 months. Every run she kept saying we were doing 9 minute miles. I checked my watch, we were doing 10:30 at best. Finally last Tuesday I said, hey, no shame in it, but if we want to hit our goal we need to push harder. She didn't speak to me for a week. Then at the race she PR'd by 2 minutes because she finally listened. But honestly, I almost didn't say anything again because her silent treatment was worse than any bad time. Has anyone else had a friend who refuses to hear basic math about their own performance?

Damn, that hits close to home. My buddy John and I ran a half marathon and he swore we were holding 8:30s when my watch kept saying 9:45. I finally showed him the splits on my phone and he got all quiet for two days, then showed up to our next run with a new watch and said "guess I was wrong." The silent treatment thing is so childish, like I'm trying to help you hit your goal, not tear you down. But yeah, after that week of cold shoulders I totally shut up about his pace for like a month, even though I knew he was still lying to himself. We finished the race and he was pissed he didn't hit his target time, and I just said "next time believe the watch." He laughed, but it took him a solid year before he actually checked his own data instead of guessing.
