Tried to talk about parking issues in my city's Facebook group and got silenced

Last month I posted in my neighborhood's community Facebook group about the new parking rules downtown. I said we needed more spots for small businesses, not just for the new apartment buildings going up near Main Street. The post got deleted within 30 minutes because apparently the group is run by a real estate agent who owns three of those buildings. A few people messaged me privately saying they agreed but were scared to speak up too. It got me thinking about how often we can't share honest opinions without someone pulling the plug. Have you ever had a simple local issue get shut down like that where you least expected it?

Start a new one. Facebook groups run by people with a financial stake in local issues are always going to censor anything that hurts their bottom line. If you want real discussion, look for a non-profit neighborhood watch group or a local paper that actually does unbiased reporting.

Yeah that tracks with pretty much everything these days. Every local group or page seems to be run by someone with an angle, even the ones that claim to be neutral.
