Warning: Bringing up budget cuts at work got me called into HR
I mentioned how the layoffs might affect our team in a meeting, and now I'm being told to watch what I say. Maybe it's just me, but it's getting hard to have honest talks.

Watch this happen everywhere. At family dinners, bring up real money issues and you get awkward silence. In community groups, question how things are run and people say you're causing trouble. Workplaces use the same playbook, labeling honest talk as bad for morale. It creates a culture where everyone avoids the real problems instead of solving them.

My last job actually fired people for not speaking up, @masonb99.

At my old retail job, the manager would ask for feedback in team meetings. People stayed quiet, scared to point out the broken inventory system. I learned to phrase it like "customers can't find size 10 shoes because the system is wrong." Made it about the fix, not the blame. @masonb99 is right, you have to frame it around solving the problem or they'll just see trouble.
