Why does nobody mention that group chats die the second someone says something real?

I posted a genuine hot take about my neighborhood's new zoning rules in our building chat and three people replied 'ok' then the whole thing went silent for a week, like I'd farted in an elevator. Are we all just pretending every online space is for surface-level jokes now, or has anyone else killed a chat by accident?
