Finally got my car out of the port in Newark after 19 days of back and forth
I shipped my mom's old Camry from San Juan to Newark and it got stuck at the port because the title had her maiden name on it and the bill of lading had her married name. Sounds simple to fix right? Nope. The broker kept telling me the bank letter was enough, the port office kept saying it was not, and I went back and forth with three different people for 19 days straight. I must have sent the same marriage certificate scan like six times to four different email addresses. What finally broke the logjam was calling the carrier's dispatch line directly instead of the main customer service number, and a guy named Dave pulled the hold in about 15 minutes. Total cost of the delay was $475 in storage fees on top of the original $1,100 quote for the move. If you're shipping a car with a name mismatch on the paperwork, fix it before the boat even leaves, not after. Has anyone else dealt with a title name issue at a port and found a faster way through it?
