Hot take: the dispatcher in Newark who let me watch my car get loaded saved me $300
I had my Civic shipped from Newark to Austin in March and the broker kept pushing me to just drop the keys and go. The dispatcher at the lot pulled me aside and said 'you paid for door to door, so stand right here and count the straps yourself.' He showed me how to check the tie down points and take photos of every panel before signing anything. Two of the four straps on my front wheels were loose and he made the driver fix both before I signed the bill of lading. My quote was $1,150 and he told me the $300 'expedite fee' the broker tried to add was pure padding. Anyone else had a dispatcher actually look out for them like that?
