Tried to ship my own car with ratchet straps, learned a hard lesson in Kansas
Last month I decided to save $400 by hauling my project truck myself on a rented trailer. Got 60 miles outside Wichita when a strap snapped and the truck shifted hard enough to dent the fender. Turns out the ratchet was rated for 2,000 pounds less than the truck's real weight, and my math was off by a full ton. A tow truck driver who stopped to help laughed and said he sees this twice a month. I ended up paying $850 to a proper shipper in Hutchinson to finish the trip. Has anyone else tried the DIY route and regretted it worse than the cost of a broker?
