Why I stopped trusting online quotes after a guy in Newark quoted me $400 under everyone else
I was shipping my Civic from Newark to Austin in March and got six quotes. The cheapest one came in at $625, about $400 less than the next guy. I almost booked it. Then a dispatcher at a different company told me those low quotes are just bait, they hold your car until you pay an extra fee at pickup. Mine sat for 11 days in a lot off Route 1 before I paid $280 more to get it moving. Now I only book with brokers who put the pickup window in writing. Has anyone actually gotten a lowball quote to stick without paying extra?
Ugh, I feel for you on this one. Getting strung along like that is the worst, and the fact that your car just sat in some lot for 11 days while you waited makes my blood boil. I went through something similar and it's the not knowing that really gets you. Sounds like you learned the hard way that the cheapest number is almost never the real number. Putting the pickup window in writing is smart, I started doing that too after my own mess.
