Disagree that job hopping is always the smart move

Last month my coworker Lisa from accounting quit after 10 months for a 15% raise somewhere else. Everyone on here says that's the way to go but I've been at my marketing firm in Tulsa for 8 years and I've gotten steady promotions and a 401k match that adds up. Does anyone else find stability actually works better long term than jumping every year?

See the problem with that Lisa comparison is you're comparing an 8 year track record of actual promotions to one 10 month hop. 15 percent is nice but she's starting from square one on vacation time, 401k vesting, and proving herself all over again. Meanwhile you've probably stacked way more than 15 percent through those steady raises plus the matching. Job hopping works best when you're stuck and getting nothing, not when you're actually moving up where you're at.

Yeah that's fair, my last job hop was more like "I need to get out of here and I can't even afford to be picky" energy. Honestly at this point I'm just hoping my next raise comes in the form of free snacks and not having to listen to my boss's weirdly detailed golf stories.
