I asked for a $5k raise at my review and got a promotion instead

I went in with a list of my projects from the last year, and my manager offered me a team lead role on the spot. Has anyone else had a raise request turn into a bigger change?

Happened to me last year asking for a cost of living bump. They created a whole new senior specialist role for me, which was wild. The pay increase ended up being way more than I asked for, but the workload jumped too. Totally get what briancampbell is saying, make sure the new duties match the new salary.

Totally agree with @briancampbell, it's wild how companies hand out fancy titles instead of actual raises these days. Makes you wonder if they're just trying to look good on LinkedIn.
