I completely changed my mind about taking a pay cut after my last job offer fell through

I was at a coffee shop downtown last month, staring at an offer from a startup that paid 12k less than my current gig. I almost deleted the email right there. But then my car broke down in the parking lot - totaled it actually - and I realized that job had way better health insurance and a shorter commute. Took the offer, and now I'm actually saving money on gas and repairs. Has anyone else had a tough choice like that backfire into something good?

Hear that about the car breakdown, that is rough but it sounds like it forced your hand in a good way... did you actually run the numbers on the total cost difference before the car died, or was it more of a gut feeling after the fact?

Man I wish I could say I ran the numbers like some kind of responsible adult, but no, it was literally my check engine light flashing and a loud bang. I was just sitting there in the Autozone parking lot like "welp, guess I'm car shopping today". The gut feeling hit me on the drive home in the tow truck, watching my bank account cry. Turned out the repair bill was more than what I paid for that clunker, so the universe basically said "you're welcome" while I was still panicking.
