Just paid $500 for a career coaching program that didn't help at all

I signed up for a 6 week online career coaching program that promised to land me a better plumbing job but all they did was tell me to update my resume and network. After 3 sessions of generic advice like "follow your passion" I realized they had no clue about skilled trades. Has anyone else been burned by these career programs that look good but are just recycled tips?

Tbh I've noticed this same pattern everywhere not just with career coaching. My brother paid $300 for a "business mentor" who literally just told him to post more on social media and smile in meetings. Like @jesse_cooper said these programs are just fancy packaging for stuff you could get for free. It's like the whole self help industry figured out that people in trades are desperate for real guidance and they just recycle the same generic advice for office workers. I see it with loan companies, credit repair places, even those "get rich flipping houses" seminars that pop up in strip malls. Everyone wants to sell you a shortcut but nobody wants to actually teach you the real skills you need.

My buddy spent $400 on a "sales mastery" course and all they taught him was how to smile more on the phone. He's a welder, not a telemarketer. These programs are basically just expensive YouTube videos in a fancy package.
