Just realized my $62k offer was fake because of one line in the fine print
Back in March I got a job offer from a logistics company in Dallas for $62k plus a sign-on bonus, and I almost quit my current job that same day. My brother in law, who does HR, asked to read the offer letter before I signed, and he found a line that said the salary was 'subject to a 90 day review period at company discretion.' I called the recruiter and asked what that meant in plain words, and she went quiet, then said it could drop to $48k if I didn't hit certain numbers that were never listed. I walked away, and two months later I saw the same job posted again with a lower range. How do you all spot this kind of stuff before you get blindsided?
Learned this the hard way when I read a contract so fast I missed that my "guaranteed" hours could be cut to 12 a week. Now I read every offer letter out loud like a weirdo, and anything about pay being "reviewed" or "adjusted" gets a phone call before I sign anything. If a recruiter can't explain a line in plain words, that line is hiding something.
