My boss told me my email tone was too cold after I sent that project update

I got feedback last month from my manager that my emails read like I was mad all the time, even when I was just trying to be direct. She showed me where I wrote 'please review by Friday' without any friendly greeting and that was the main issue. Anyone else had to totally rework how they write work emails to sound warmer?

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at this stuff, but after I got similar feedback last year and actually tried adding a quick 'hope you're having a good week' at the start, it did make a real difference. People started replying faster and with less attitude back.

Did your friend notice a difference too? My buddy works in sales and he was super skeptical about this whole "warm up the email" thing. He finally caved and started with a quick "hope the kids are doing alright" after he noticed a customer mentioned them. Now he says people actually read past the first sentence before deleting.
