Rant: The cover letter template I trusted for 4 years was dead wrong

I was at my kitchen table in Columbus applying for a warehouse supervisor role last month. I had this template a buddy gave me back in 2021, it was all about listing every task I ever did. Got an interview, but during it the hiring manager straight up said, 'Your letter reads like a job description, not a story about results.' I froze, then asked what she meant. She showed me a candidate who wrote about cutting delivery times by 15% instead of listing routes. I redid my whole letter that night with real numbers and got the call back the next week. Has anyone else figured out the switch from duties to outcomes the hard way?
