Shoutout to the free Google cert I finished in 3 weeks over the $1,800 bootcamp I almost signed up for
I was about to put $1,800 on a credit card for a data bootcamp back in January because everyone kept saying you need a certificate to get hired. Then a friend from my old warehouse job in Columbus pointed me to the free Google data analytics cert on Coursera instead, and I figured it couldn't hurt to try it first. It took me 3 weeks of nights after work. The bootcamp had live teachers and a job board, which sounds nice, but the free one had the same basic lessons on spreadsheets, SQL, and Tableau. What actually got me interviews was the portfolio project I built at the end, not the certificate itself. I put it on my resume and got 4 callbacks in a month. The bootcamp people kept calling me for weeks after I said no, which honestly told me a lot. Now I'm wondering if anyone here did pay for the expensive version and felt like it was worth it. What did the paid program give you that the free stuff didn't?
