Showerthought: I found out most people don't ask for a raise until they're ready to quit
Honestly, I was reading a report from a job site called Payscale last week. It said like 70% of people who ask for a raise get one, but most folks wait until they're already looking for another job. Tbh, that blew my mind because I've been sitting on a list of my projects for months, thinking it wasn't the right time. Has anyone here actually asked for more money without having a backup offer lined up?

Sounds like a fear of rejection thing.

Yeah, that fear of rejection thing @river_scott is real... I used to get stuck in that loop. What helped me was just forcing myself to send the first message, even if it was just a simple "hey, saw your post about X." Once I got the first one out, the next ones were way easier.

That stat about 70% getting a raise is wild, makes you wonder why we wait so long. Totally get what @river_scott said about fear of rejection, it's a huge mental block. I finally asked without another offer once, just laid out what I'd done for the company. Boss actually said they were glad I spoke up because they hadn't noticed all the extra work. Worst they can say is no, but you gotta ask to have any shot.
