Showerthought: Picking a stable 9-5 over a commission sales job felt like failure at first
I turned down a $50k base plus commission role at a dealership in Phoenix for a boring $42k office job with benefits, and after 6 months of watching my buddy stress over slow months while I saved up for a vacation, I think I made the right call - has anyone else felt weird choosing safety over potential upside?

Took a 10% pay cut leaving a commission based sales job for a state gig with a pension and a predictable schedule. Best thing I ever did. My buddy who stayed in sales now has a nice car he can't afford to drive anywhere because gas money is tight some months. I just came back from two weeks in Portugal on actual paid time off while he was answering emails from his phone at the airport bar.

Did you catch that study that came out about how people in government jobs actually report way lower stress levels than people in commission sales? I swear I read it on NPR. Sounds like you made the right call.
