That $30 career coaching call I almost skipped actually landed me a job offer

I was super skeptical about career coaching last year, but my friend in Austin convinced me to try a free 15 minute call with her guy. The coach pointed out my resume was burying my best project at the bottom, and I moved it to the top after he showed me why. Three weeks later I got an interview because the hiring manager said she noticed that project right away. Has anyone else had a cheap or free career service that actually paid off?

That move to put your best project at the top is interesting because it's such a small change but it obviously made a huge difference. Did the coach explain why hiring managers focus on that one spot or was it just a gut feeling thing? I'm curious if there's actual research behind that trick or if it's just what works in practice.

Recruiters skim fast, so whatever grabs them in those first ten seconds gets the real look.
