That networking event at the Hilton downtown back in 2019 really shifted my whole approach
I showed up to this thing with a stack of resumes and tried to hand them out like candy. Some older guy in a blue suit just looked at me and said "put those away, nobody cares about your paper here." He spent 5 minutes asking me about my hobbies instead of my job history. After that night I stopped memorizing elevator pitches and started just trying to have actual conversations. Has anyone else found that forcing organic connections works way better than rehearsed stuff?

A stack of resumes at a networking event? Man, that's wild. I went to one of those things a few years back and watched a guy try to hand his phone to someone to scan a QR code before even saying hi. The other person just walked away mid-swipe. It's like people forget you're not at a job fair, you're at a bar with name tags. That blue suit guy did you a solid, honestly.
