The 2019 office toaster that got promoted before I did
In our Chicago office we had this dented toaster from 2019 that only browned one side unless you spun the bread halfway through. Three people quit, two managers cycled in, and we moved floors twice, but that toaster stayed on the same counter. Then last month someone replaced it with a fancy one that has a bagel button and a defrost setting. Suddenly everyone schedules coffee breaks around toast time, we actually talk to each other, and my boss mentioned the new toaster in a team meeting like it was a key hire. I put in for a transfer last week because apparently kitchen appliances get more recognition than my quarterly reports. Has anyone else watched office morale shift because of a dumb piece of equipment while their own efforts went totally ignored?
The "key hire" toaster line would sting me too, not gonna lie. Watching a kitchen gadget get a shoutout while you're getting ignored is a special kind of rough.
