The exit interview that caught me off guard last month
Last month I sat in on my first exit interview as a manager at our office in Columbus. The person leaving was a solid worker for 4 years, and I expected some polite feedback. Instead she told me our weekly one on ones felt like a checklist, not a conversation. She said she never got a clear answer on where she could grow, so she took a 15% pay cut at a smaller firm for a real development plan. It made me wonder, how many of us actually ask employees what they want before they walk out the door?
