TIL only about 1 in 4 people actually negotiate their first salary offer, and I found that out 3 weeks after I signed mine
I was poking around a career site during my lunch break last Tuesday and saw this stat that said only 23% of people try to negotiate their first offer out of college. I just signed mine 3 weeks ago for $52,000 and took it the same day because I was scared they would pull it. My roommate who works at a staffing agency in Columbus told me most companies already build in room for a counter and expect you to ask. She said she has seen candidates get an extra $3,000 to $5,000 just by asking one simple question about whether the number was firm. I keep going back and forth on whether I should email HR now and ask, or if that ship has sailed and I will look like a mess. Has anyone actually pushed back after signing, and did it blow up in your face or work out fine?
