Vent: I used to just slap my resume together with bullet points and now I actually Google what the hiring manager wants to see

After 6 interviews where nobody asked about my old job at a coffee shop, I realized I needed to ditch the fluff and tailor everything to the company's own keywords, so has anyone else had to redo their whole resume after finding out recruiters use AI bots to scan them?

Actually that's a solid point about mirroring the job posting too much - I've seen people do that and it comes off as lazy. But I gotta gently push back on the idea that scanning the job description is pointless. Those bot scans ARE real and they DO look for specific keywords from the posting. If you don't match them at all, your resume won't even reach a human to notice your cool blog post research. So like, you want to hit the main keywords from the job ad but then use your extra research to show you get their deeper problems. It's not either/or, you gotta do BOTH for it to work right.

yeah so the AI bot thing is real but honestly i think people are missing the bigger picture which is that those bots are trained on the same resumes the hiring managers are looking at so if you just mirror their own job posting you're basically telling them what they already know. i mean think about it they already wrote the job description why would they want to read it back to themselves in resume form. idk maybe it's just me but i started looking at the company's blog posts and press releases instead of just the job listing thats where you find the actual projects they're struggling with and the real language they use internally. like if they keep saying "customer retention" instead of "client satisfaction" on their website then thats the word they actually care about. the bots might scan for keywords but the human reading it later wants to see something that shows you understand their actual business problems not just their HR department's wishlist.
