Finally caved and bought a track saw after years of fighting with straight edges

I always thought track saws were overpriced and just a fancy way to cut plywood. Been using a clamped straight edge with my circular saw for like 8 years. Got a job last month in Denver where I had to cut 20 sheets of 3/4 birch for cabinets and my straight edge kept slipping. Borrowed my buddy's Makita track saw for one afternoon and it was night and day. No tearout, perfect cuts every time, took me half the time. Who else held out on a tool forever and regretted not buying it sooner?

...and that's the thing, the time savings alone are worth it. I did the same thing with a router table. Bought a cheap one from Harbor Freight, fought with it for two years, finally spent real money on a proper one and wondered why I didn't do it sooner. With the track saw, it's not just the speed though. It's the consistency. You don't have to worry about the blade wandering or the saw binding up. Plus, if you ever have to break down sheet goods by yourself, a track saw is a game changer. You can lay the plywood flat on foam boards, set the track, and cut without needing a helper to hold the other end. Saves your back and your sanity.

Yeah but have you tried cutting wet OSB with a dull blade? Now THATS a workout.
