Found a trick for flush cuts on crown molding corners

I kept getting tear-out on the back side of my crown cuts until I taped the cut line with blue tape before sawing. Tried it on a job last Tuesday and every corner came out clean, no sanding needed. Anyone else tape their miter cuts or am I late to the party?

Taped my crown cuts for years now, it's a solid trick that saves a ton of cleanup. Make sure you burnish the tape down tight against the cut line so the blade doesn't lift it up. Also keep your blade sharp and feed it slow through the back side, that helps a lot too. If you're still getting a little fuzz, run a quick pass with a fine file and it'll be smooth as glass.

Taping my cuts sounds way more professional than just blaming the saw like I usually do.
